Once upon a time, all leopard geckos were pale yellow or tan, with black spots covering their entire body.  These are now known as "normals" or "wild-types".  Over many generations of selective breeding, many different color morphs, have been produced (see below).  There have also been several different patterns, other than the typical banded and spotted types, including striped, reverse-striped, and jungle.
